SEER – Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio
The SEER is the measure of cooling efficiency in air conditioning mode.
The higher the number, the more efficient the system. A range of numbers would run from 13 SEER through to 21 SEER as a high efficient unit.
HSPF – Heating Seasonal Performance Factor
Takes into account the energy efficiency of the heat pump over the entire heating season. The higher the number the more efficient the unit. A range of numbers would run from 6.5 through to 9.
COP – Coefficient of Performance
Coefficient of performance is the amount of heat output divided by the amount of energy input. The higher the COP, the more efficient the system. COP is an instantaneous rating and does not take into account the whole heating season. Typical air-to-air heat pumps have COPs of 2.5 to 1 or greater.
AHRI – Is the certified reference number provided by the Air Conditioning Heating and Refrigeration Institute. The AHRI number is required when submitting for Federal Energy Efficiency Tax Credits.
